Empowering Women in Geosciences: Promoting inclusivity, fostering professional growth, and advocating for gender equity to drive innovation and excellence across Ireland.

About Us

In 2017, driven by a passion to provide a space for discussion, inspiration and empowerment, Dr Aoife Blowick, together with a group of women and allies that wanted to make real change, founded the Irish Association for Women In Geosciences (IAWG).
Supported by the GSI, DECC and a wider range of partners, the IAWG publicly launched at the Irish Geological Research Meeting (IGRM) in February 2018. The IAWG was the first association of its kind in Ireland. Later that year, the association marked another first by becoming the first ever European Chapter of the Association of Women Geoscientists
(AWG).
Since it’s launch, the IAWG has hosted a wide range of events, both in-person and online, supported the drive for gender equality across the geosciences, and diversity more broadly, by supporting and collaborating on events such as career-focused activities e.g., Girls into
Geoscience (now Get into Geoscience), Pathfinders Series and Pint of Science, and showcasing role models, trailblazers and allies e.g. Women in Geoscience: Past, Present and Future showcase.
Today, the IAWG is re-launching its identity, its mission and its goals. Today, the IAWG stands for and with all women in all their diversities.
