Siobhán Burke – President

Siobhán is a Marine Geoscientist at the Marine Institute, responsible for the technical delivery of EU-funded projects supporting marine research and innovation. With a background in marine geophysics and offshore renewables, she is passionate about novel technologies for a sustainable ocean future. A founding member of the IAWG committee, Siobhán advocates for diversity and inclusion in the geosciences.

Aoife Blowick – Vice President

After her post-doctoral research, Aoife shifted from academia to pursue her true passion: empowering women. Now the Senior Manager of TrailblazHER™, she co-founded the IAWG in 2017 and served as its first President, leading the charge of the association’s early chapters to support women in geosciences across Ireland.

Michelle O’Grady – Secretary

Michelle is a Deputy Project Manager at the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) and is working on geothermal projects in particular. She is also an advocate for equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace and sits on the British Geological Survey’s EDI Steering Group.

Rebecca Ní Chonchubhair – Treasurer

Rebecca is a hydrogeologist working with the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland. Her work covers multiple aspects of hydrogeology including groundwater resource management, groundwater vulnerability, groundwater chemistry and geothermal energy.

Shonny Lehane – Events Officer

Shonny is a geologist with 17 years’ experience in the mineral exploration and mining industry. She lives in Cork with her husband and three children, and is currently the iCRAG Operations Manager. Shonny is a member of SEG, AIG, and IAEG.

Eshbal Geifman – Communications Officer

Eshbal is a PhD researcher at Trinity College Dublin, working on Paleogene magmatism in the north of Ireland.

Phoebe Walsh – Communications Officer

Phoebe is a PhD researcher at UCD, where she carries out research funded by the Marine Institute and the Environmental Protection Agency. Her work examines how both human activities and ocean movement impact how carbon is stored in our seas and on the seabed, an area of study known as Blue Carbon.

Aileen Doran – Ordinary Committee Member

Aileen is a Sustainability and Raw Materials Consultant at Satarla, a risk management and sustainability consultancy. She is also the co-founder and director of the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Geosciences (EDIG) project, a global volunteer-led effort dedicated to making geosciences more inclusive, accessible, and welcoming for all.

Swetha Venugopal – Communications

Swetha is a Teaching Fellow at Trinity College Dublin in the Department of Geology. She teaches volcanism and magmatism as well as metamorphic geology. Her research specialization spans from volcanology to planetary geology.

Catherine McQuillan – Ordinary Committee Member

Catherine is a Geosciences Consultant at RSK Ireland. Catherine is a Chartered member of CIWEM and Chartered Scientist through the Institution of Environmental Sciences.

Clara Hurley – Ordinary Committee Member

Clara is a recent graduate of Geography and Geoscience at Trinity College Dublin. She is excited to be part of a committee dedicated to increasing the gender balance in the geoscientific field
